Let's transform

plastic waste

in school benches

In Senegal, BANCO! collects and recycles plastics through a model factory in Gandon. From schoolchildren to their benches, this unique project fights pollution while creating a sustainable ecosystem that unites associations, private companies and public authorities. We recycle, we manufacture, we inspire.

Why value
existing plastic?

Plastic is a ubiquitous material that pollutes our ecosystems when not managed properly. By recovering existing plastic, we reduce waste, protect the environment and give a second life to a material that would otherwise be harmful. This contributes to a more sustainable future, by limiting the extraction of new resources and minimizing negative impacts on biodiversity.

How do we harvest
plastic?

  • Via schools: We have created a local collection network, in partnership with 50 schools in the Gandon region where original bins in the shape of Gobie fish are installed in the playgrounds. A partner comes to collect the plastic once a month and brings it back to our micro factory to be processed.

  • Via a network of trash cans to collect water pockets in Saint Louis.

  • Via local partners who deliver plastic to us that has already been washed, sorted and crushed into flakes.

How do we raise awareness among the population?

Our partner Samba organizes awareness raising for children in the fifty schools in the region where the Gobies are installed. He discusses with them the importance of recycling and collecting dirty plastic in their lives and their environment.

How to
transform
plastic?

After collection, the plastic is sorted, cleaned and shredded or crushed. It is then heated to 200 degrees in an extruder, before being poured into moulds that transform it into sturdy boards. Our machines run on solar energy. The cooling water is treated in a sewage treatment plant to avoid any pollution.
